Budget vs Premium Headsets: EGA TYPE H8 VS CORSAIR HS70 BLUETOOTH

1. Design
Let's start with the design. The EGA Type H8 has a very gamer-oriented look and is fairly large. Its leather-textured headband carries the EGA logo, giving it a feel far more expensive than its price. It is highly flexible and adjusts to the wearer's head. The aluminum frame above the headband is strong yet flexible enough to bend. Each part looks attractive on its own, but together the proportions feel somewhat off. When worn, it looks unbalanced and not especially flattering. Ultimately, design comes down to personal taste.
The Corsair HS70 Bluetooth is a full-size over-ear headset, entirely finished in matte black for an elegant, refined look. It suits anyone who likes understated luxury, and the materials have the premium feel expected from Corsair. Both earcups feature black grilles with the striking pirate-ship logo in the center.
The top of the headband has a modestly sized Corsair name. The part touching the head is made from very soft memory foam, while the aluminum frame keeps it light, strong and durable. Adjustment markings show the extension level. This is a personal preference, but I find those markings particularly useful in daily use.
The large ear cushions fully surround the ears without pressing on their sides. Made from memory foam covered in PU leather, they feel very comfortable and also block some outside noise.

The EGA Type H8 also uses thick, soft memory foam ear cushions covered in PU leather. Your ears may get warm during long sessions because ventilation is limited. Still, comfort is a strong point: it can be worn all day without feeling squeezed.
Next are the controls. The Corsair HS70 Bluetooth has a power switch and status LED on the right earcup. The left earcup has the microphone socket, a 3.5 mm input, a USB-C port for connection and charging, a microphone mute button and a volume control. Having these operating controls together on the left makes one-handed adjustment easy.
The wired EGA Type H8 does not need as many ports as Jan's headset, but it does have a volume adjustment control on the left earcup.
The Corsair HS70 Bluetooth supports both wired connections and wireless Bluetooth 5.0. It includes a 1.5-meter 3.5 mm cable and a 1.8-meter USB-A to USB-C cable for wired use. Both cables are braided for added strength and durability.
The EGA Type H8 connects by Plug and Play through a gold-plated USB connector designed for good signal transmission. Its rubber cable is 2.2 meters long, providing plenty of reach.

2. Sound
Let's talk about sound. Both of these 2 headsets have 50 mm drivers and Virtual Surround 7.1, providing sound from all around for greater realism. In games, this makes the atmosphere more convincing, helps locate sound directions more accurately and adds depth.
A brief test of the EGA Type H8 with music, movies and games was quite good, as you would expect from its extensive specifications. Left-right separation is good and game directions are fairly clear. With music, the bass is not especially heavy. It seems tuned for gaming, with softer bass that makes other sounds easier to hear.
The Corsair HS70 Bluetooth sounds very clear and clean. Left-right and front-back positioning are also good. It works well for movies and music too, with bass that is not overly heavy, making it versatile.

3. Microphone
Let's listen to the EGA Type H8 microphone: hello, one two one two one. Its short microphone adjusts freely through 360 degrees, has noise reduction and includes a status light that cannot be switched off. Sound quality is acceptable and intelligible, but not especially crisp, with a slightly muffled character. It reduces some noise, though some remains audible. The level is also quiet, probably because the microphone is too short and sits to the side rather than in a position that picks up the voice well. If microphone quality is not a major concern, this may be easy to overlook.
The Corsair HS70 Bluetooth microphone sounds clear and clean, without other sounds intruding during use. It detaches for easier transport. When removed, the socket can be covered with a logo-marked rubber cap, a thoughtful detail that also helps keep out dust. The microphone uses a 3.5 mm jack, and its adjustable boom is easy to position. A foam cover helps reduce outside noise. It performs well for general use and is certified for the popular Discord application. Its Discord-certified status gives confidence in stable, crisp and clear conversation audio.

4. Extra Features
Finally, let's look at the headsets' other features and what else there is to explore.
The EGA Type H8 includes software for adjusting EQ, or EQUALIZER. You can raise or lower bass, mids and treble to shape the sound as you like. Sound effects add to the listening experience, and many other adjustments are available. Overall, it offers very detailed sound customization.
The Corsair HS70 Bluetooth also includes software for further sound adjustment. With iCUE, you can configure the equalizer and choose preset modes such as standard, movies, FPS games and bass emphasis. You can also create and save custom settings. Importantly, microphone volume can be controlled directly through the software.
The Corsair HS70 Bluetooth also connects to many devices: consoles including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox, PCs, and smartphones for music or calls. Battery life reaches up to 30 hours.
Beyond software, the EGA Type H8 adds RGB lighting to enhance gaming. Circular lights surround the EGA logo on the sides of the earcups. These LEDs automatically cycle through up to 16.8 million colors, but the drawback is that you cannot customize them as you wish.
Although my headset has no RGB lighting, its highlight is simultaneous use with 2 devices: a wired 3.5 mm or USB connection together with a wireless Bluetooth connection.
